I am really impressed with FW. Any plans to add a fairly thorough English lexicon as a separate project? This could be useful for those of us teaching English to minority languages. One could quickly go down a list of English words making translations, expecially if they are organized thematically.
I’d like to use FW to make basic and intermediate ‘English to target’ language dictionaries. It seems FW is well-designed to do work in the other direction for now. Thanks again for all your work.
Thank you so much for all the tools that make translation so much easier!
I had a question regarding interlinears. Is there currently any template file for the Hebrew and or Greek New and Old Testament that is already morphologially tagged and ready to use for an interlinear with a new language?
I’ve seen OpenText.org, but so far I have not found a way to use their tagged Greek text to make the job of creating an interlinear in another language that much easier (in my case I want to create a Khmer Hebrew and Greek Interlinear).
This is a request regarding FW 7.0.3, which I really like! In the Parser.Try a Word dialog, please enable pasting in the “Word to try:” text box. If one is working with a language using a non-Roman script, it is nice to be able to copy a word and paste it into this text box. Thanks!
I’ve been playing around with creating new Writing Systems and would like to delete one, but don’t see a command to do this on the Set up Writing Systems dialog box. Could you tell me how this is done? Thanks.
Regarding my post on May 23, 2011 at 10:05 PM, I realize now that Fieldworks does allow pasting into the Parser.Try a Word dialog. It is accomplished using CTRL-v
All your writing system are listed in the project properties dialog box on the Writing Systems tab (You can get there from Format -> Set up Writing Systems…). To delete one, right-click on the Writing System you want to delete and click ‘Delete’.
Will there be the ability to add fields to the Info database associated to Texts. I could use at least 4 more fields to organize metadata regarding the stories that we have collected by villages, people, dialects, and date. the current 6 fields are not enough.
Hi Joes,
Data Notebook is no longer a separate application, it is now a tab in the Language Explorer application. All versions (7.x) include Data Notebook.

I love how you are constantly improving FW (7.0.6). The speed with which it works through 20,000 NRS lexemes (Burmese based) is really swift. How do I put a gloss in small caps, for example, 2SG?
–Doug
Thank you for your query. Unfortunately Flex does not support this. Certain fonts do support small caps (such as Charis SIL and Doulos). You can create a style that uses small caps, but can’t apply a style to the gloss field.
In the Lexicon, it is possible to ask for a concordance of a particular lexeme form and allomorph by clicking on the blue arrow next to ‘Lexeme Form’ and selecting ‘Show Lexeme Form in Concordance’.
You can also get this kind of concordance from an interlinearized text, by right-clicking on the form you want to concord on and following the menu item Show Concordance of and selecting Morph.
Upgrades between certain versions of FieldWorks cannot be made by patch, because some types of changes are incompatible with the patching technology we use. We try to keep changes where only the third node changes upgradeable by patch.

Are you going to release a version for MAC?

Hi Ed, This is not currently being worked on, though I have documented your request.
I just want to ask, which version have data notebook?

How do I upgrade from Language Explorer 7.0 to a newer version using an upgrader program and not have to download the whole thing each time?
Upgrades between certain versions of FieldWorks cannot be made by patch, because some types of changes are incompatible with the patching technology we use. We try to keep changes where only the third node changes upgradeable by patch.
