Demo Movies

The Demo Movies demonstrate many of the features of Language Explorer (FLEx). They were made with stable release FieldWorks 6.0, so do not contain the latest developments in FieldWorks 7.0 or 8.0, such as the new Notebook area in FLEx or Send/Receive.

To install the movies download the appropriate movie package and follow the instructions.

For FieldWorks 8

  1. Download the movie package (206 MB).
  2. Double-click the msi file you downloaded.
  3. A progress bar appears, showing the progress of the installation.

For FieldWorks 7

  1. Download the movies package (206 MB).
  2. Double-click the msi file you downloaded.
  3. A progress bar appears, showing the progress of the installation.

For FieldWorks 6.0.x

  1. Download one of the FieldWorks 6.0.x installation packages. Note where you save the file to.
  2. Double-click on the exe file you downloaded. After it extracts files, the first installation screen appears. Proceed with step 3 before clicking OK!
  3. Download the movies package (205 MB). Copy or save this file into the FieldWorks subfolder inside the temporary folder created in step 2. This will be within the location you noted in step 1.
  4. Proceed with the FieldWorks installation.

Once the movies have been installed, you can access them in FLEx on the menu: Help -> Demo Movies.

Alternatively you can open your browser and paste in the address of the movies:

  • On 64 bit Windows use:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SIL\FieldWorks 8\Language Explorer\Movies\Demo Movies.html
  • On 32 bit Windows use:
    • C:\Program Files\SIL\FieldWorks 8\Language Explorer\Movies\Demo Movies.html

These movies require Flash Player 10.

You can view the old movies in Cantasia by clicking here. There are some new movies in Vimeo and most of those created in 2009 have been moved over as well. You can view them at this location. For a list of the available movies click here.

I would like to learn how to synchronize two computers to the same language program, without opening up a new project for every update

You can use the new send/receive capability available in version 8 to do this. There are instructions on the version 8 download page. Basically, you start with one copy of your project (delete the other copies) and save it in a repository (usb, ChorusHub or LanguageDepot). Then both computers can make changes and share them using ‘Send/Receive’ Project.
